IPA CIS Observers to be Monitor Presidential Elections in Belarus

Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova invited the IPA CIS observers to monitor the presidential elections in Belarus.

“Taking into consideration the vast experience of the IPA CIS in monitoring the preparation and conduct of elections and the unshakeable authority of the organization, the objectivity of its conclusions, I am honored, on behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, to invite the IPA to participate in international monitoring of the presidential elections of the Republic of Belarus. I have sent the corresponding official invitation today to Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko.” - said Natalia Kochanova at a meeting of the IPA CIS Council held at the organization’s headquarters today.

Speaking about the work of the IPA CIS observers , she noted that was an “honest, objective assessment”.

Also at the meeting, MPs discussed the results of monitoring the early elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The details were presented by the coordinators of the IPA CIS observer groups – First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Andrey Yatskin and Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy Taalaibek Masabirov.

Sahiba Gafarova thanked the IPA CIS for sending international observers, their responsible and important work.

Tanzila Narbayeva said that the parliament had begun analyzing the conclusion of the IPA CIS observer group at the parliamentary elections to further improve the country’s electoral legislation.

The presidential elections in Belarus are assigned for 26 January 2025. The coordinator of the IPA CIS international observers group will be a representative of the Russian Federation.

At the meeting, the upcoming elections to the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan have also been discussed.

The heads of the parliaments of the CIS countries accepted the Address of the IPA CIS Council in connection with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and reviewed a number of other issues.
